Building 3D structures from biological polymers

نویسنده

  • John Colyer
چکیده

The characteristics and main properties of nucleic acids in general and DNA in particular are described. In addition, their relation to nanoconstruction is given and the main methods, obstacles and breakthroughs during the past ten years are revised. However, the backbone of the essay comprises the work of Seeman's group and their quest for rigidity in nanoconstruction using DNA as a building block. Finally, brief comments on possible applications and the relation of DNA nanoconstruction to other branches of technology such as electronic design are given. Modular and orthogonal synthesis of hybrid polymers and networks.

Biomaterials scientists strive to develop polymeric materials with distinct chemical make-up, complex molecular architectures, robust mechanical properties and defined biological functions by drawing inspirations from biological systems. Salient features of biological designs include (1) repetitive presentation of basic motifs; and (2) efficient integration of diverse building blocks. Thus, an ...

Simulation of Smoke Emission from Fires in High-Rise Buildings Using the 3D Model Generated from 2-Dimensional Cadastral Data

Having a 3-Dimensional model of high-rise buildings can be used in disaster management such as fire cases to reduce casualties. The fundamental dilemma in 3D building modeling is the unavailability of suitable data sources. However, available cadastral 2D maps could be used as low-cost and attainable resources for 3D building modeling. Smoke will be a great threat to people's health during a f...

Developing a BIM-based Spatial Ontology for Semantic Querying of 3D Property Information

With the growing dominance of complex and multi-level urban structures, current cadastral systems, which are often developed based on 2D representations, are not capable of providing unambiguous spatial information about urban properties. Therefore, the concept of 3D cadastre is proposed to support 3D digital representation of land and properties and facilitate the communication of legal owners...

Modeling of Optimal Distances of Surveying Stations for Monitoring Astable Engineering Structures Using Geodetic Methods

Large and astable engineering structures are the great importance and the behavior of such structures is usually made in Geotechnical and Geodetic methods (engineering geodesy). In the geodetic methods, the selection of appropriate surveying stations, in terms of distribution, locations, and distant of the target points to stations the control network, have a significant role in determining th...

Porous coordination polymers with zeolite topologies constructed from 4-connected building units.

Two novel 3D coordination polymers, Cd(CTC)(H2O).(H2PIP)(0.5)(H2O) (1) with zeolite ABW topology and Cd(CTC).(HIPA) (2) with zeolite BCT topology, have been synthesized by constructing inorganic and organic 4-connected building units and using the organic bases as templates, and the frameworks of and not only expand the original structures of zeolites ABW and BCT, but also exhibit significant a...
